How to Better Understand Your Consumer
Ask yourself if you behave like you expect them to
Don’t be the founder that “others” their consumer by assuming they behave any differently than you do.
Are you truly your consumer?
Are you ordering 24 cans of RTD cocktails online every six weeks? 🛒
Do you call for your brand of gin at the bar a few times a month? 🍸
Are you spending more than $40 per bottle on spirits regularly? (Average unit price in 2023 was $28.33, per Drizly) 💳
There’s a real danger in hypothesizing that your consumer is alien from you.
You cannot expect them to adhere to your entrepreneurial fantasy. 🏰 🐉 💰
As Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson write in Rework, “If you’re solving someone else’s problem, you’re constantly stabbing in the dark. When you solve for your own problems, the light comes on.”
Empathize with your customers’ habits, motivations, and purchasing triggers.
🔍 Examine your own behaviors and you’ll better understand your consumer.
Market awareness starts with self-awareness.
